AUDIENCE FEEDBACK 2- Charlotte
What is your favourite production company name?-
Answer: DANSEAL PICTURES
What is the name that best fits the genre we have chosen, psychological thriller?-
Answer: CDL PICTURES
Do you think the designs look professional, if so which one?
Answer: By looking at the 4 pictures, i feel that the 2nd one looks the most professional due to the writing and picture used not being cartoony or comic which benefits the group because of it looking genuine and real for the 'audience'. The colours used also match each other so it doesn't look all over the place.
Do you think they look convincing and real?
Answer: Out of the 4, the 2nd and 3rd look the most convincing and real. From the audience point of view i think that the 3rd and 4th will look the best.
AUDIENCE FEEDBACK 3- Twyla
What is your favourite production company name?
Answer: CDL PICTURES
What is the name that best fits in with the genre we have chosen, psychological thriller?
Answer: CDL PICTURES
Do you think the designs look professional, if so which one?
Answer: I think the 3rd one out of the 4, because the type of picture is used in real production companies and the shape of the logo is different to a square which could be boring.
Do you think they look convincing and real?
Answer: The 2nd and 3rd out of the 4 due to them looking the best.

Production Company Names, Logos and Research
There are many names we have thought of for our production company names, we wanted it to be unique and rememberable so that the audience would be more interactive and see the next film 'made by us'. Some Examples:
- LANSEA PRODUCTIONS
- GREY PIGEON PRODCUTIONS
- GBP PRODUCTION
- BELLEINI PICTURES
- CDL PICTURES
- GRAY STUDIOS
- DANGRAY PRODUCTIONS
- DANSEAL PICTURES
- CHELSAN STUDIOS
Also with the logo of our production company it also needs to be unique and rememberable so we stand out from the other shown in the adverts before the film etc, here are some that we may use:

5. Using Conventions Of Real Media Texts
Conventions of a magazine Front Cover
Conventions of a Contents PageMy Contents Page- Conventions used, developed and challenged on a Contents Page There are also many conventions to a contents page, these include page numbers, small images and also a contact information. I included all of these things due to wanting to make it look more realistic. On my contents page i used a web address just like my front cover but didn't include it on the double page spread because i didn't think it was a relevant as the other two. I also used a title in a distorted layout due to it being similar to other contents pages as it makes it look more modern and fresh, i also kept in with the colour scheme of my magazine by using purples and faded the colours from dark to light to have a contrast between the other components on the contents page. I also used the colour scheme with the underlines of the titles and also included my masthead at the bottom which is in pink to keep in with the 'theme'. By doing this it made my magazine look professional and clear to the audience that it had a link between all of the products (front cover, double page spread and contents page).
My Double Page Spread- Conventions used, developed or challenged
The first thing on i used on my double page spread was a main image, this was of the main artists that are included on the contents page and front cover. I used a filter to make the image look bright and in colour. I used a quote from the artists to show the audience a 'snippet' of what they have to say, this is also effective and used with other real magazines because of it being on of the first things the audience reads to carry on looking at the column. I also followed the conventions of using columns in my writing but i feel like i challenged this because of having two paragraphs above as an introduction, in bigger and bold writing. I used a banner in the corner of my double page spread to inform the audience that this 'column' was exclusive to make it more exciting for the audience to read. I also continued the colour scheme that i had used throughout to match it to the other products i had made but also to make it look organised and professional. I think the colour scheme helped because it being about female artists and i think it matched the column instead of using 'boyish' colours. I continued the font throughout all the products to make it look professional but could be improved due to it being to small and difficult to read for the audience. On my double page spread i made changes to make it look realistic. I changed the image filter to colour instead of black and white to add more colour, i included more columns so the reader could engage more, I included a page number and a quote on the image to make it look more appealing. I also made 'DL' in big letters to show the audience who the main focus is but to also make it look more exciting and appealing to read other than a boring title (I included 3 titles). I made my double page spread look more busy and professional even though minor components could be improved. I kept things some components the same like the title, fading from a dark purple to a light so it would make my magazine more unique from other real products. I used a question and answer in my columns because that is what most audiences like to see in a column or double page spread because it is actually what the artists said themselves and not wrote by someone else. I think overall my double page spread was successful but i would have improved more components to make it look better (the main image being myself, the font being to small and thin, the colours used)
What I would do differently and improve....
- Masthead
- Main Image
- Headline
- Pull Quotes
- Cover Lines
- Date
- Bar code
- Price
- Colour Scheme
- Banners
- Anchorage Text
- Strap line
- Direct Address
- Unique Font
- What issue the magazine is
- Title (Usually 'contents page')
- Web Address
- Issue Date
- Small Images
- Contact Information
- Page Numbers and Information included in the different pages
- Captions for images (page numbers)
- Main Image
- Smaller titles or Mastheads
- The name of the magazine (usually in the corner or at the bottom)
- Pull Quote
- Title/Header
- Text/Column
- Continuing the colour scheme
- Banner
- Page Number
- 'Question and Answer'
- Main Image

What I would do differently and improve....
The first thing that i would change is the models for my magazine, i used myself and it made me conscious of my product but also thinking it looked worse than it did. I would think more about my colour scheme appealing to the genre of the music but especially the audience. Another thing that i would change is the colour on my masthead being pink, i don't think it really helped me choosing a colour scheme because it looked good with girly colours. Another component i would change is the genre being house music, i regret doing this genre because of the conventions and images etc being so hard to apply, i would have chose to do R&B or Pop. I would have changed my font throughout due to it being a problem on the double page spread being difficult to read and i don't think it suited my products. The last thing i would change is the images, i used different filters and colours on the images and it think overall it made my magazine look tacky with the colour scheme and other components.

4. Post-Production
Front Cover
This is my final front cover for my music magazine product, i used meany elements that you would usually see in a front cover. With this i did research into real media products to make mine look realistic as it could. By doing this i included a main image, a masthead, cover lines and realistic components you would usually see like a bar code, date and price.
Strengths of my Front Cover
- The masthead that i chose to use is similar to other mastheads on realistic magazine products. I used big bold font with a pop of color to attract the audience to 'buying my magazine'. With this it is also being the main image to make it look even more realistic because it is all about the artists on the front cover also the first thing the audience notices.
- Using bold, bright colors for the cover lines on the magazine to attract the audience by reading the 'information' and making the magazine front cover exciting for the audience to read.
- The main image s in front of the masthead to make it look more realistic because most front cover i looked at had the masthead behind the artists cause they are the main focus.
- When making the magazine product i used colors that all linked together to make it look professional but changed my mind by the end with using bright colors to attract the audience to make them want to read more.
Weaknesses of my Front Cover
- For my main image i was self conscious because i used my self and didn't think it looked very good.
- By using so many different bright colors i think it made my front cover look tacky and unprofessional even though i thought it would attract the audience more.
- The web link that i used should of been bigger so the audience could see it more clearer.
- The color of the cover lines on the left hand side cashed with the main artists top so it wasn't very clear for the audience to read.
- The color scheme wasn't linked together at all which makes it look unfinished and it needed improving.
Contents Page
This is my final product for a contents page for a music magazine
product. I used many elements that a real contents page would use to make it look professional and unique. Even though i wanted to make it look realistic i wanted to put my own twist on it to make it look original and like no other.
Strengths of my Contents Page
- I followed most of the typical conventions of a contents page due to the fact that it made it look realistic, but also putting my own twist on it made it unique and like no other 'products'.
- For my contents page i used more information then images because of the audience needing to read what is on each page, this is beneficial because the only thing the audience should focus on is the main artists featured on the contents page.
- Changing the layout of the word 'contents' to make it look more funky and unique even though most real products use this technique.
- The color scheme i used was all very similar to make it look professional for the audience.
- Using the masthead and the web link to the 'website' to benefit the audience with information even more.
Weaknesses of my Contents Page
- The two images in the middle have the background erased, i don't think this benefits my contents page because i think it looks messy and tacky, i would have rather had it with the background still on so its neat and clean.
- The images are all in black and white purely to suit the color scheme more because of it looking more professional but i think it would have brightened up the contents page more by having the images in color.
- The spaces between the writing make it look empty and UN-interesting to look at, if i wrote more and used less space it would look more busy and excitable.
- Should have used more colors to make it look more exciting.
This is my double page spread, I think this is the one i struggled with the most due to the columns and making it look realistic and different also from other media products. Even though i completed it and made it look the best i could i still think it had a lot to improve to make it look better.
Strengths
Strengths
- The image that I used was very 'playful' which i believed show the audience the funny side of the artists which made my magazine more fun and unique, another reason as well was because a double page spread is an article about the artists and what they're like and i believe that the picture did it justice.
- I used a quote from the artists on the image to make the audience want to read the whole article.
- I used a banner saying 'EXCLUSIVE' so the audience would want to read the article as well as the quote i used.
- I kept the colour scheme the same as the double page spread so it look professional, using the colours purple to pinks.
- The title i used on the top of the article (The decks, the tunes and the making of DL) where i faded the colours going from dark to light and i think it was unique from any other magazine as they only use single bold colours other than a fading technique.
Weaknesses
- I used the main image on the double page spread as myself and i didn't think it looked good due to me being self conscious.
- I think i put to much information on the double page spread and it got to the point where it looked a bit tacky with the different colours, font sizes and layouts.
- On the other half of the page i think that the different font and 'boldness' made it look unprofessional to the reader/audience.
- I think it would have look better if i did the questions in the article a different colour so the audience could see the difference between the question and the answer.

3. Research & Planning
Analysis of a Front Cover- VOGUE
- For this task I analysed a front cover, notifying myself with the different elements that a make a successful one (masthead, main image, cover lines and anchorage text etc). I think this helped me because of me starting to learn about the different components that make a good front cover but also knowing the different key terminology so it helped me in the long run with my own product. For this i think it will help me because of what audiences want and what they expect to see in a front cover or whatever media product is made. For the future tasks this research would help me with the different technologies and terminology that i would use in the long run and also in future tasks.
Different mastheads and graphic designs- Music Magazine
- For this task i needed to decide on what i wanted my masthead to look like fitting in with the other components of my magazine also. This task helped me decide on what i wanted to use, but also with this i had to research audience and what i needed to do to make the front cover look realistic. Through audience research i think it helped me to gain more knowledge on what other media businesses do to make they're magazine look good even though it is realistic. By looking at other products with different mastheads i think most mastheads suited the music genre of the magazine but also if it had colour using it to link in with any other colour that is used on the front cover e.g. main image, cover lines. Overall i think this was a strength for me because of it giving me a better and clearer idea of what i wanted my masthead to look like, it helped with choosing the name, the colour and also the font. Without the research that i did i wouldn't of been as confident using it on my media magazine product.
Analysis of Contents Page/ Mood Board
- I analysed a contents page and began research into what elements are used to make it suit the genre i have chosen but also what is usually seen and included. I think this task was a strength for me due to the fact that i knew what needed to be included and what effect it has on the reader e.g. Images, colour scheme, layout, the titles used and the people/ celebrities used. This made me consider my colour scheme, images and layout the most because of me wanting it to suit the genre that i had chosen. It made me want to analyse different media products in a way where it would help me and make my work improved, but also to help me consider why certain components are used in different media products and how it is effective. By looking at different contents pages and bringing them together it helped me decide what i wanted my own media product to look like by looking at every music genre.
Audience Feedback Questionnaire
- For this i created a questionnaire on survey monkey with 10 questions, this was for my research about my music magazine. The survey included questions like 'how much would you pay for a music magazine?' and 'what is the best name to call my music magazine?' (Which they were given options) when the results were in i posted them on my blog. I didn't think this helped me because there wasn't enough people who completed the questionnaire so it was difficult to get an accurate answer or audience feedback, i didn't think this was going to help me because i didn't think my magazine product would suit the target audience because there wasn't many people who answered it. For this year i made a questionnaire and got more feedback due to more people answering it and the help from my teacher emailing all of the staff.

2. Creativity
1. How creative do you think you were in the decisions you made when creating your coursework?
There are many conventions audiences expect to see on a magazine cover. I needed to do research into these to figure out how i could make my magazine unique and creative.
The conventions that are seen on all magazine covers were:
4. Was your product influenced by your social environmental (e.g. your interests?)
The music genre that i chose was house music. The reason i chose this music genre is because I listen to house music and know about all the artists within this genre. By this i knew what audiences wanted to see from a magazine front cover due to my age and the audience feedback i received. With me being a young adult i think it helped be a lot in what i wanted my magazine to look like but also what people expected from a magazine. I think it influenced my product because of the different decisions i made e.g. the image, costume, colour scheme and the cover lines i wrote (knowing about artists and different events).
5. Was this original or did you add something extra to your original media text?
My final product followed to closely with an original media product, but the first front cover i produced was my own idea with everything original to what i wanted but throughout research i changed my mind because of it not being realistic enough and not fitting in with the conventions you would usually see. I decided to change a couple of components of my front cover like layout, images and cover lines. I think i changed my layout the most because i wanted it to look realistic and professional, from my first product to my final product there was a lot of differences that was made. I think that i made these changes for the better because of me being happy and content with what i produced.
6. Would you take any creative skills into future projects or have you been influenced to engage these skills in any other projects?
I think overall i have been influenced by different programmes, technologies and also different techniques. This is because at the start of the year i didn't know a lot about techniques that you could use to make something look good e.g. on fireworks the erasing tool so your main image (artists) where in front of your masthead. Also another thing that had a big influence to make me conscious was using my self on my magazine throughout, didn't think it helped my work look good because of me being conscious.
There are many conventions audiences expect to see on a magazine cover. I needed to do research into these to figure out how i could make my magazine unique and creative.
The conventions that are seen on all magazine covers were:
- A masthead (Which is catchy)
- Main image
- Basic colour scheme to draw the audience in and catch there eye e.g. bright colours
- Cover Lines to inform the audience (Puff)
- Bar code to make the magazine look realistic
- Pull quote to interest the reader
- Banner to advertise big events coming up e.g. DJ's playing at specific venues
- The price of the magazine
- The issue number and date so the reader know which magazine is which.
- The use of different shapes and fonts to have a contrast
With my music magazine i had to produce and front cover, double page spread and contents page. By doing research into what audience expect to see it gave me a starting point to what i would do to mine which made it look good and realistic. I followed most of the typical conventions for my magazine because of most audiences not liking change to a front cover of a magazine they usually see e.g. the layout, although most conventions are followed due to the fact that it makes the product look professional and realistic. Not many magazines challenge these conventions we see because of it working well but also using a traditional way, but in some cases magazine challenge conventions because of working for they're specific audience and therefore in the long run being successful. For my front cover i feel like i challenge the usual conventions of what you would usually see in a house magazine because of using bright colours and an unusual layout, what you would usually see on a front cover is one main image and then cover lines and puffs to inform the audience where as for my magazine i used for pictures than information to have a difference and uniqueness to my front cover. In the long run many changes where made to my front cover because of me not liking my layout and me not being realistic to my product. I was not happy with the visual syntax on my front cover due to there being to much space and i think my audience needed to be informed with more cover lines other than just images.
2. Did the technology enhance your creativity or not?
3. What ideas did you communicate and what stylistic techniques did you use? how did it relate to your interests/vision for your music magazine?
I wanted to create a front cover that was modern and stylistic. I researched into many different fonts and images that i would use to suit what i wanted my magazine front cover to look like. I had to think about many components to make my magazine look modern and stylised:
The cover lines, layout and colour scheme changed a lot throughout my magazine because of my opinion changing. The different techniques I used was using different colours to have a contrast and not have everything matching due to my 'genre' of house music against the different images and cover lines etc. At first i wanted my layout to be unique by using more images then cover lines because of it being a new fresh, modern way but i changed the style near the end of completing my product because of it not suiting usual genre conventions you would see in a magazine layout (need to inform the audience other than show them). I wanted the cover lines on my magazine all to be different but in similar colours and the same font, due to the fact that it would look messy otherwise.
- Font
- Masthead
- Images
- Cover Lines
- Colour Scheme
- Layout
The font that I chose was very modern and fresh, i think that the font that i had chosen suited my audience and also suited the genre of house music. The font was used throughout the 3 products i created so they all matched and looked professional.
The masthead was the most important thing for me as its the first thing the audiences see but also being the name of a magazine which audiences usually remember. I named my magazine MUZIK as it was a modern way to say 'MUSIC' which was a twist that would give my magazine an edge that no other magazine would have. I chose a font that was different a made the word look more modern, i also chose a hot pink yo contrast with the black writing and also the colours used on the front cover. This was the masthead I used:
The images that I took were made to look stylistic opposed to a realistic picture, I had many troubles with the images that i have used due to the fact that i used myself and i was very self conscious of my product. Throughout creating my product i changed my main image quite a lot. For my final product i chose an image where the 'artists' where looking directly at the camera because it followed a typical convention of a music magazine. I also used different filters on my images to make it look different and to almost have a contract between them all.
4. Was your product influenced by your social environmental (e.g. your interests?)
The music genre that i chose was house music. The reason i chose this music genre is because I listen to house music and know about all the artists within this genre. Treatment Plan/ Production Company Final Narrative Idea
Name of Film: Into Thin Air
Genre: Psychological Thriller/ Teen
Why we chose this idea?
- The idea seemed easy to make and adapt to, we thought the initial idea was interesting and liked the fact that the film would confuse our audience. Our specific audience would most likely enjoy and engage with the film as our target audience is 15-25 year olds. The location that it was based around was university/school, so would be easier and more efficient to work around school and less time thinking about the locations we should use. Another reason why we chose this idea is because our audiences may be able to relate to the content of our film and our characters. Plus the genre is different to other trailers, films and ideas. The idea can also be applied to younger audiences because of them being more likely to go to the cinema and spend money on watching the latest film. Also with this age group it can be more related to school, apprentiships and jobs due to the main character going through the same thing. The idea also involves a relationship between two best friends which can be applied to young girls of the same age. As the genre is a psychological thriller it includes a type of mystery and i think audiences like to see that the most in films but also the excitement that comes with watching the film.
Semantic Elements:
- Urban/modern settings, props such as mirrors and stairs to create confusion, low key lighting, shadows, fast-paced editing, everyday costumes, tense and eerie music, cliques/stereotypes, school setting/houses of characters/the mall, drinking, rebellion, partying, sex, drugs, alcohol smoking, social hierarchy.
Syntactic Elements:
- Ending that ties loose ends together or perhaps an ending with a twist, see characters progress throughout the story, conflict, complications, confusion between fantasy and reality, good vs bad, gradual breakdown, teens vs adults, usually a new person comes to school and is seen as an outsider, relationship problems, conflicts between cliques.
